Rochester, N.Y. — Some Bank of America customers received letters in the mail Saturday informing them of a possible security breach.
The bank states, “We take your account security very seriously and have learned that some credit card information may have been compromised at a third party location.”
The bank issued customers new cards with the letter informing customers’ accounts will be closed in seven days in receipt of the letter and to activate the new ones immediately.
Some customers we spoke to weren’t even aware there was a problem until we told them.
“I don’t really know what’s going on and the only way I hear of it is from another source such as the news,” said customer Fred Dean.
Hearing the news about a week after RG&E announced it had a security breach left some with little confidence.
“Sometimes you do want to keep your money in your pocket, said Bank of America customer Robert Granville.
Bank of America tells its customers, “They can feel safe knowing their account comes with exceptional security protection.”
That seems to make some customers feel at ease.
“I think it’s secure,” said one customer.
“Sort of concerned but pretty much got confidence in them that if anything happens they will investigate and if something happens, I’d get reimbursed,” said Granville.
Bank of America says its customers are protected with zero liability fraud protection.
The spokesperson says just because customers received a letter, doesn’t mean there was a problem.
He says issuing new cards is simply a precaution.
